WANA (Oct 20) – Alexander Lavrentiev, the Special Envoy of the President of Russia for Syrian Affairs, who is visiting Tehran for consultations with Iranian officials, met with Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Monday evening.

 

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the latest regional and international developments, particularly the situation in Syria, as well as the expanding bilateral cooperation between Tehran and Moscow.

 

Minister Araghchi highlighted the very positive level of relations and the growing cooperation between the two countries in bilateral, regional, and international fields. He also expressed appreciation for Russia’s firm and principled stance at the United Nations Security Council in opposing the misuse of the JCPOA dispute resolution mechanism to reinstate the canceled resolutions against Iran’s nuclear program.

 

Lavrentiev, for his part, underlined the strategic partnership between Iran and Russia and emphasized the importance of continued consultations between senior officials of both countries on regional and international issues.

 

Both sides reaffirmed their shared position on the developments in Syria, stressing the need to preserve the country’s unity and territorial integrity, to oppose any violation of Syrian sovereignty, and to prevent the country from becoming a safe haven for terrorism.
