WANA (May 20) – The Deputy for Legal and International Affairs at Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated: We believe that unilateral punitive measures, often presented as diplomatic tools, fail to achieve their intended objectives.

Kazem Gharibabadi, speaking at the conference titled “Unilateral Sanctions: Access to Justice at National, Regional, and International Levels,” said: Unilateral sanctions are contrary to the Charter of International Law and violate internationally accepted norms. Despite claims of pursuing political and security objectives, such measures severely damage national economies and inflict significant harm on the people and their countries.

He added: These measures are being used irrationally and illegitimately.

Gharibabadi emphasized: Such sanctions undermine healthcare and economic systems, effectively depriving people of their right to life and a full existence.

He noted that Iran is a prime example of a country whose people have lived under a sanctions regime for decades. These sanctions, imposed as part of the so-called “maximum pressure” policy against Iran, have restricted access to medical and healthcare equipment. As a result, individuals with cancer and other chronic illnesses have been denied proper treatment.
