WANA (Sep 20) – Following Gholamreza Farkhi and Amin Mirzazadeh, who won gold for Iran in Greco-Roman wrestling on Friday night, Hadi Saravi delivered another commanding performance, defeating a Russian opponent in the final to secure Iran’s third gold medal.

 

The repechage and final matches of the second three weight categories at the World Greco-Roman Wrestling Championships in Croatia continued on Saturday.

 

In the 72 kg class, Seyed Danial Sohrabi began with a dominant 10–1 victory over Amanthor Ismailov of Kyrgyzstan in the opening round. He followed up with another 10–1 win against Dmitry Adamov of Russia in the second round to reach the quarterfinals.

After a loss, Sohrabi entered the repechage and faced Khachatryan of Armenia, defeating him 7–0 by technical superiority to qualify for the bronze medal match. There, he overpowered Mery Mayolitkanov of Kazakhstan 8–0 within the first three minutes to claim bronze.

 

In the 97 kg division, Mohammad Hadi Saravi received a bye in the first round and then beat Nitesh of India 4–0 in the second round to advance to the quarterfinals. He edged out his Georgian rival 1–1 on criteria to move into the semifinals, where he overcame Maskovich of Belarus 3–1 to book his place in the final.

 

Saravi, the reigning Olympic champion, faced Sergisyan of Russia in the title bout and came out victorious, securing Iran’s third gold medal of the championships.

On Friday night, Gholamreza Farkhi (82 kg) and Amin Mirzazadeh (130 kg) had already struck gold, while Payam Ahmadi earned silver. With these results, Iran has already guaranteed the overall team title.

 

On Sunday night, Saeed Esmaeili and Alireza Mohammadi will compete in the finals, while Mohammad Mehdi Keshtkar will wrestle in the bronze medal match.
