WANA (Sep 18) – Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan held a phone call today with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, during which he informed him about Saudi Arabia’s recent defense agreement with Pakistan.

The two ministers also discussed bilateral relations as well as regional and international developments.

Saudi Arabia and Pakistan signed a strategic defense pact on Wednesday, under which any aggression against one of the two countries will be considered aggression against both.

The agreement was signed during a formal meeting between Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at Al-Yamamah Palace in Riyadh.

News agencies have described the accord as a step to strengthen decades-long security cooperation between the two nations. The office of Pakistan’s prime minister said the aim of the deal is to expand defense collaboration and enhance joint deterrence against any aggression.

The agreement comes a week after Israel launched an attack on Doha, Qatar, reportedly in an attempt to assassinate Hamas officials. Meanwhile, according to reports, Saudi Arabia did not inform the United States about the pact before signing it with Pakistan.
