Seized Tankers Attributed to Iran Transferred to Diego Garcia Military Base
WANA (May 05) – Reports indicate that the United States has transferred two seized oil tankers, attributed to Iran, to the military base on Diego Garcia—an action that has drawn significant criticism and attention.
According to informed sources, the two tankers, which were previously detained during a U.S. naval interception operation in the Arabian Sea, are now en route to this strategic base in the Indian Ocean. Maritime tracking data had earlier confirmed the vessels’ movement toward the region, although their Automatic Identification System (AIS) signals have reportedly been switched off.
The decision to move the tankers to a remote military base suggests that countries such as Oman, the United Arab Emirates, and Pakistan may have declined to allow the vessels to dock at their ports.
The tankers were seized last week amid rising maritime tensions between Iran and the United States. Some analysts have described the action as an instance of “piracy,” arguing that it violates international law and calling on global institutions to respond accordingly.
