WANA (Apr 03) – Shahid Beheshti University announced that one of its educational and research buildings was struck on April 3, describing the incident as a continuation of hostility against science and academic institutions.

In an official statement, the university said the attack occurred at 16:00 local time in the Velenjak area, where a major educational and research center sustained significant damage following what it described as a direct strike by U.S. and Israeli forces.

The university condemned the incident, stating that it not only endangered academic staff and the scientific environment but also constituted “a direct attack on knowledge, research, and freedom of thought.”

It expressed full support for its professors, researchers, and students, adding that such actions would strengthen the resolve of Iran’s academic community to continue its scientific work.

The statement also called on international academic institutions, media, and the global community to report on attacks against civilian, educational, and medical centers and to end silence toward such hostile actions.

Separately, the Deputy for International Affairs of the Red Crescent Society of the Islamic Republic of Iran announced that the targeted building belonged to the university’s Laser and Plasma Research Institute.

She emphasized that the facility is purely scientific and research-oriented and noted that it is not the first time such a place is being targeted by U.S. and Israeli forces.
