Shehbaz Sharif’s Account of Pakistan’s Role in Iran–U.S. Negotiations
WANA (Apr 29) – Pakistan’s prime minister stated in a cabinet meeting that the talks held on the night of April 11 between Iran and the United States in Pakistan lasted around 21 hours.
He described them as a marathon session, accompanied by extensive efforts from Islamabad to help promote peace in the region.
He added that figures such as Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Ishaq Dar played key roles in the process, which ultimately led to an extension of the ceasefire that remains in place.
Sharif also referred to the visit of Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, to Pakistan for a second round of talks, noting that important meetings were held with him. He said that a phone conversation had also taken place before Araghchi’s trip to Russia.
According to the Pakistani prime minister, Araghchi emphasized that the negotiations in Oman were pursued in good faith, and that Iran will announce its response soon after completing the necessary consultations.
