Shiraz: Rising Hub for Medical Tourism in the Middle East
WANA (Aug 19) – Shiraz, Iran’s cultural hub, is rapidly gaining recognition as a major medical tourism destination in the Middle East. With advanced medical services, modern treatment facilities, and specialized medical teams, the city is attracting visitors not only from across Iran but also from neighboring countries, including Oman.
The Fars Province Tourism Department highlights that Shiraz offers world-class medical care, making it an appealing destination for international health tourists seeking high-quality treatments at competitive costs.
The city has developed a comprehensive health tourism system designed to streamline medical travel, providing tourists with centralized access to licensed hospitals, health travel offices, and professional tourism guides. The system also allows for direct services and complaint registration, ensuring a smooth and transparent experience for visitors.
Ziaei, head of Fars Province’s Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts Department, emphasized that the platform guarantees transparency and efficiency in the medical tourism sector. Complaints regarding travel services or treatment centers are addressed through legal mechanisms under strict supervision, ensuring high service standards and visitor satisfaction.
Recent discussions with Omani officials revealed a strong interest in expanding cooperation with Shiraz in medical tourism. Recognizing Shiraz’s potential as a healthcare destination, Oman stressed the importance of closer ties to promote travel from Oman to Shiraz.
These collaborations aim to position the city as a top choice for visitors from the region seeking affordable and high-quality medical treatments, while also fostering knowledge exchange and tourism innovation between the two countries.
Shiraz’s efforts form part of Iran’s broader national strategy to grow medical tourism. Anoushirvan Mohseni Bandpei, Deputy Minister of Tourism, announced plans to implement a comprehensive health tourism system across Tehran, Khorasan Razavi, and Fars, with nationwide expansion to follow.
The initiative involves multiple stakeholders, including the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, licensed hospitals with international patient departments (IPDs), travel agencies, and specialized doctors, ensuring every stage of a health tourist’s journey is carefully managed.
By integrating advanced medical services with tourism infrastructure, Shiraz is positioning itself as a global medical tourism hub. With expanding international partnerships, world-class healthcare facilities, and a streamlined visitor experience, the city is emerging not only as a cultural center but also as a leading destination for medical tourists.
The success of Shiraz’s system is expected to serve as a model for other regions of Iran, reinforcing the country’s growing influence in the Middle East’s medical tourism market.
