WANA (Oct 04) – A number of Iranian prisoners in the United Arab Emirates have been released and are expected to return to Iran within the coming hours, according to reports.

The reports said the prisoners were released following efforts by an Iranian diplomatic and security delegation and are expected to return to the country shortly.

The prisoners had spent years in UAE prisons over what Iranian sources described as baseless charges. The agency said their release followed extensive efforts by the Iranian delegation.

A significant number of those released are reportedly women.

The delegation overseeing the case has said that other Iranian prisoners in the UAE would also be released and returned to Iran in the near future.
