WANA (Apr 13) – The Spanish Embassy in Tehran has officially reopened, with the country’s ambassador returning to resume diplomatic operations. The move marks a step toward restoring full diplomatic activity and strengthening bilateral relations between Spain and Iran.

According to official reports, Antonio Sánchez-Benedito Gaspar, Spain’s ambassador to Tehran, announced on Monday via a post on the social media platform X that he and his diplomatic team have restarted the embassy’s operations in the Iranian capital. He stated that the decision aims to contribute to ongoing efforts to promote peace and to implement directives issued by Spain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Upon his arrival in Iran through the Astara border crossing a day earlier, the ambassador emphasized Madrid’s commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation, fostering sustainable peace, and exploring economic and investment opportunities. He also noted plans to assess Iran’s tourism potential during his visit.

Spain’s Foreign Minister had previously confirmed last week that, following recent developments and the establishment of a ceasefire, the embassy—whose operations had been temporarily suspended—would soon reopen.
