Spain: We Will Not Participate in Any Military Action Against Iran
WANA (May 05) – Spain’s Foreign Minister, José Manuel Albares, has stated that Madrid will not take part in any military action against Iran and emphasized that diplomatic solutions remain the only viable path.
Albares noted that the Spanish government and the Vatican share a common view on resolving crises without resorting to war. He said he also discussed the situation of Christians in the Middle East and an attack on a nun during his meeting with the Pope.
Regarding recent tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, the foreign minister stressed that restoring normal operations in this key waterway cannot be achieved through war, but only through negotiations.
He reaffirmed that Spain’s position remains unchanged: it will not participate in any military action against Iran, and it supports a return to negotiations. According to Albares, this position was also conveyed during a recent conversation with Iran’s Foreign Minister.
He added that while current attention is focused on the Strait of Hormuz, this should not lead to ignoring what he described as the “illegal aggression” against Lebanon.
