WANA (Apr 13) – The United Kingdom has ruled out participation in any naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, distancing itself from recent U.S. threats to restrict maritime traffic in the strategic waterway.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated that “under no circumstances will Britain be drawn into a war with Iran,” adding, “we do not support a blockade.”

His remarks came after Donald Trump threatened to prevent ships from entering or exiting the Strait of Hormuz—an action widely expected to drive up global oil prices and intensify economic pressure.

According to The Guardian, the threat followed the collapse of U.S.–Iran negotiations in Pakistan, with Trump claiming that other countries could join the effort.

Instead, London signaled it is working with Emmanuel Macron and other partners to form a broader coalition aimed at safeguarding freedom of navigation in the region.
