Switzerland Announces First Iran–U.S. Meeting Following Peace Agreement
WANA (Jun 18) – The Swiss government has announced that representatives from Iran and the United States will begin the first round of talks on Friday in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, with the participation of regional mediators and several involved countries, focusing on the implementation of the recent agreement between the two nations.
In a statement, Switzerland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that, according to current plans, Iranian and American delegations, along with representatives from Pakistan, Qatar, and other involved parties, will gather on Friday for a preliminary meeting to discuss mechanisms for implementing the agreement.
The ministry noted the current circumstances and emphasized that no further details have yet been released regarding the agenda, the level of representation, or the exact schedule of the meeting.
The announcement comes after the memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the conflict between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States was signed in the early hours of Thursday, June 18, 2026, following weeks of consultations and mediation efforts.
According to released information, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and U.S. President Donald Trump signed the memorandum digitally and remotely.
The meeting in Switzerland is now being viewed as the first practical step following the signing of the agreement, with expectations that it will focus on implementation frameworks and oversight mechanisms for the deal.
