Tabriz International Airport Reopens Today
WANA (May 27) – Tabriz International Airport resumes operations today, Wednesday, May 27, following extensive repairs to damages sustained during the recent military conflict, aviation officials announced.
Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization spokesperson Majid Akhavan confirmed that Shahid Madani International Airport in Tabriz officially reopens today, marking the immediate resumption of its first commercial flights.
According to officials, this is the 21st airport to be brought back into service following the infrastructure damages incurred during the recent conflict.
Reconstruction and Strategic Importance
During the conflict, Tabriz Airport was a frequent target, sustaining heavy damage to its runway and air traffic control tower. However, Iranian technical teams and specialists successfully restored the airport to operational status despite the severe structural damage to the control tower.
Tabriz International Airport stands as Iran’s third-busiest international hub. Prior to its closure, the airport regularly serviced nine international destinations, including Istanbul, Baghdad, Dubai, Baku, and Hamburg. International routes are expected to phase back into operation following today’s reopening.
