WANA (Oct 25) – The Tajik government has approved a draft memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Iran to cancel visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and official service passports.

According to Tajik media, under this decision, the foreign ministries of both countries will determine the time and place for signing the MoU in accordance with established procedures. If necessary, minor amendments may also be made.

Previously, Tajikistan and Iran had already lifted visa requirements for holders of ordinary passports. The first phase of that agreement took effect on August 10, 2024, and initially applied only to air travelers on the Dushanbe–Tehran and Tehran–Dushanbe routes.

Under that agreement, citizens holding ordinary passports from either country can enter the other without a visa and stay for up to 30 days within 90 days from their first entry.

This new decision is expected to further strengthen diplomatic and economic ties between the two countries and facilitate travel for government officials and diplomats on both sides.
