Uranium Enrichment Must Continue Inside Iran
WANA (Jul 25) – Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs, Majid Takht-Ravanchi, emphasized on Thursday that uranium enrichment must remain ongoing within the country, reaffirming it as Iran’s legitimate right under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
Speaking following a meeting with the political directors of the three European countries, Takht-Ravanchi described the talks as part of a continuing series of discussions on nuclear issues. “These talks are held periodically, and today’s meeting was a continuation of those exchanges,” he said.
Referring to recent developments, the Iranian diplomat noted that “since the last round of talks, we have witnessed acts of aggression by the Zionist regime and the United States against our country. Naturally, this was a key focus of today’s session, during which we conveyed our positions clearly. These actions violate international law and the UN Charter.”
Takht-Ravanchi also addressed recent discussions by some European countries concerning the possible reactivation of sanctions and the snapback mechanism. “We explicitly expressed our objections to these positions,” he said.
He underlined Iran’s rights under the NPT, specifically regarding uranium enrichment, stressing: “Enrichment is our legitimate right and must continue within Iran.”
Lifting sanctions was another central theme of the talks. “We reiterated that the unjust sanctions must be lifted as soon as possible,” he added.
