WANA (Aug 25) – A commercial oil tanker was struck by an unidentified projectile in the Strait of Hormuz early Tuesday morning, disabling its engine room, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).

 

The incident occurred approximately 17 kilometers off the coast of Al-Shisah in northern Oman. Citing reports from the vessel’s authorities, UKMTO confirmed that while the propulsion system sustained heavy damage, all crew members onboard have been reported safe.

 

“The crew of the tanker is safe, but potential environmental damage remains unclear,” the maritime agency stated in an official advisory.

 

UKMTO has issued a warning to all nearby vessels operating in the transit corridor to exercise extreme caution and immediately report any suspicious activity or further incidents.
