Tankers Withdraw from Crossing Strait of Hormuz as Iran Enforces New Transit Rules
WANA (Apr 18) – Traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has decreased over the past few days, with the Wall Street Journal reporting that vessels successfully crossing are following the route designated by Iran.
According to ship navigation data, a number of tankers that intended to pass through the Strait of Hormuz have abandoned their plans and changed course.
Reports indicate that the ships which have crossed the Strait are exclusively using the route recently established by Iran.
As of yesterday evening, April 17, following Iran’s announcement, only commercial vessels are permitted to use the route specified by the Ports and Maritime Organization to enter or exit the Strait of Hormuz until the end of the ceasefire, subject to Iranian authorization.
