Targeting Media Professionals in Gaza Is a Direct Attack on Freedom of Expression
WANA (Aug 12) – The Public Relations Department of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued a statement condemning the Israeli regime’s killing of journalists in Gaza.
The full text of the IRGC’s statement reads as follows:
“In the Name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
The recent crime committed by the Israeli regime in targeting journalists and media professionals in Gaza—particularly the killing of six courageous, devoted frontline reporters who conveyed the cries of oppressed men, women, and children, including Anas Al-Sharif—is a direct assault on human values and freedom of expression. This unjust act not only violates human rights but also undermines the right of nations to know the truth. In today’s cognitive warfare, journalists, with their pens and cameras, stand against lies and distortions, carrying the heavy responsibility of delivering awareness to human societies.
The racist, predatory Israeli regime, which has always sought to silence the voice of truth, has once again shown—through such a crime—that it will stop at nothing to hide its medieval atrocities and its inhumane, brutal nature. Targeting journalists in the heart of conflict zones, especially in Gaza, is essentially an attack on freedom itself and a crime aimed at enforcing “media silence” and denying reality. By assassinating journalists and media workers, this criminal regime seeks to obstruct the flow of information, block the delivery of truth to the world, and conceal the bitter reality of its crimes in heroic and oppressed Gaza.
In today’s world, where battles are fought in the realm of minds and perceptions, war correspondents serve as soldiers on the frontlines of truth-telling, working under the harshest conditions to convey facts and realities and to counter false and distorted narratives. On the battlefield—amid the deafening roar of artillery and bombardments—these journalists persist tirelessly in their duty to tell the truth.
At a time when Iran is celebrating “Journalist’s Day” and honoring media professionals, the killing of six brave reporters in Gaza not only reflects their courage and sacrifice in the path of truth but also highlights the vital role journalists play in informing the world. These fallen reporters, through their blood, not only carried the voices of Gaza’s oppressed to the global community but also sent a powerful, meaningful message to the world: never remain silent in the face of injustice and atrocity.
The Public Relations Department of the IRGC, while condemning this heinous crime and honoring the memory and heroism of the 237 journalists who have defended Gaza’s cause and legitimacy since the start of the “Al-Aqsa Storm,” emphasizes that freedom-seeking, truth-driven media professionals will stand alongside the Palestinian people until the liberation of Al-Quds. The IRGC calls on all nations and global communities—especially institutions and organizations claiming to defend human rights and press freedom—to break their silence on these crimes, refrain from any form of complacency, and demand an immediate halt to these atrocities as well as accountability for those responsible for killing journalists in Gaza.”
