WANA (Jul 03) – Iran’s Parliament Speaker stated during a meeting with his Iraqi counterpart, who traveled to Tehran to attend the funeral ceremony of the late Supreme Leader of the Revolution, that the strategic relationship and deep-rooted ties between the two countries remain strong. He emphasized that security, economic, and transit cooperation between Tehran and Baghdad could contribute to greater regional stability and development.

 

During the meeting, held on Friday morning, July 3, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf expressed appreciation for the Iraqi delegation’s presence in Iran and thanked the Iraqi government and people for their support and solidarity during difficult periods.

 

The Speaker of Iran’s Parliament also addressed regional developments, saying that countries across the region have been affected by the actions of the United States and the Israeli regime. He expressed hope that the Islamic Republic of Iran’s resistance in both political and military arenas would help promote greater stability and security throughout the region.

 

Highlighting the history of bilateral relations, Ghalibaf stated that Iran and Iraq have consistently stood by one another during critical and challenging times. He noted that after overcoming the era of Baathist rule, the two nations strengthened their cooperation in safeguarding national sovereignty and supporting one another.

 

Ghalibaf also referred to the issue of managing the Strait of Hormuz, noting that recent agreements have addressed matters related to the strategic waterway and that Iran would take into account the views of Persian Gulf littoral states, including Iraq.

 

During the meeting, the Iraqi Parliament Speaker expressed condolences and solidarity with the Iranian people, describing his participation in the funeral ceremony as a reflection of the close and respectful relationship between the two countries. He added that Iraq had stood alongside Iran during recent developments.

 

He further highlighted the political, religious, and historical ties between the two nations and stressed the importance of continuing bilateral cooperation, particularly at the parliamentary level. He added that solidarity between the peoples of Iran and Iraq remains strong at both public and official levels.
