Tehran and Moscow Stress Rapid Implementation of Strategic Partnership
WANA (Feb 18) – President Masoud Pezeshkian said Iran is firmly committed to the swift and precise implementation of the comprehensive strategic cooperation plan with Russia, stressing that expanding bilateral ties can help strengthen regional stability without the need for intervention by extra-regional powers.
Speaking on Wednesday in a meeting with Sergei Tsivilev, Russia’s energy minister, Pezeshkian described relations between the two countries as “highly distinguished and steadily expanding,” expressing satisfaction with the acceleration of cooperation across multiple sectors. Referring to his numerous meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin since the start of his administration, he said key strategic decisions have been made that open new horizons for Tehran–Moscow relations.
The Iranian president said the government is determined to operationalize the comprehensive cooperation agreement “with strength, speed, and precision,” noting that collaboration in transportation, energy, oil and gas, agriculture, security, and defense is progressing at a favorable pace. He added that progress on agreements is reviewed weekly at the highest levels of government, with relevant ministries tasked with expediting implementation.
Pezeshkian highlighted the completion of joint projects — particularly transit corridors — as a catalyst for a new phase in bilateral relations, expressing hope that expanded cooperation will have lasting positive effects on the regional economy. He also criticized unilateral approaches by some powers, saying regional countries should deepen their ties to avoid the need for external intervention in regional affairs.
For his part, the Russian energy minister conveyed greetings from Russia’s president and described the 19th Joint Economic Cooperation Commission as “positive and fruitful,” saying the past year had been productive for bilateral ties. Tsivilev stressed that Moscow considers its relationship with Tehran highly important and that broad cooperation will continue.
He also expressed condolences from the Russian government and people following recent incidents that led to the deaths of several Iranian citizens, stating that no factor would be able to undermine the strategic partnership between Iran and Russia.
