Araghchi Reaffirms Iran’s Firm Support for Lebanese Resistance

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reaffirmed Tehran’s firm support for the legitimate resistance of the Lebanese people against occupying aggressors during a phone call with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan.

Referring to the intensification of Israeli military aggression against Lebanon, Araghchi stressed Iran’s unwavering backing of Lebanon’s legitimate resistance against occupying forces. He also briefed his Turkish counterpart on the latest developments regarding ceasefire efforts and indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States held in Islamabad.

The Islamabad talks, mediated by Pakistan, began on April 11 and were chaired by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and U.S. Vice President JD Vance. The negotiations were held over several rounds, lasting a total of 21 hours. Despite reaching understandings on some points, the talks ultimately ended without results due to what Iranian officials described as excessive demands by the United States, according to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei.

During the call, Araghchi described the military actions by the United States and Israel against Iran as a “gross crime” against international peace and security. He emphasized the responsibility of all governments and the United Nations to hold the aggressors accountable and to prosecute and punish those responsible for ordering and carrying out such crimes.

He further reiterated Iran’s strong support for the legitimate resistance of the Lebanese people in the face of escalating Israeli attacks.

For his part, Fidan reaffirmed Turkey’s support for ongoing initiatives aimed at ending the war across the region. He also called for vigilance among all parties against what he described as Israeli efforts to sustain instability and normalize lawlessness and crimes in the region.

Following the Islamabad talks, Araghchi also held phone conversations over Sunday and Monday with several counterparts, including the foreign ministers of France, Oman, Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Russia, to discuss the developments.
