Tehran Condemns U.S. Ceasefire Violations
WANA (May 08) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran has issued a strongly worded statement condemning recent U.S. military actions as a “flagrant violation” of a standing ceasefire, characterizing the attacks as a sign of Washington’s growing “desperation” in the region.
The Ministry condemned strikes conducted by the U.S. military late Thursday, May 7, and early Friday, May 8. The attacks reportedly targeted two Iranian oil tankers near the Port of Jask and the Strait of Hormuz, as well as several coastal installations.
Violation of International Law and Ceasefire
Tehran asserted that these operations represent a direct breach of the ceasefire agreement reached on April 8, 2026. Furthermore, the Ministry categorized the U.S. actions as a violation of Article 2, Paragraph 4 of the UN Charter and a “clear act of aggression” under UN General Assembly Resolution 3314.
“These provocative acts… demonstrate the escalating frustration and confusion of the U.S. ruling body and their utter inability to comprehend the reality of the situation or find a rational solution to exit the self-made quagmire,” the statement read.
Warning to the United Nations
The Foreign Ministry called upon the UN Security Council and the Secretary-General to fulfill their responsibilities regarding international peace and security. Tehran warned that “indifference and appeasement” by the United Nations toward U.S. “lawlessness” could lead to dangerous regional consequences.
The Ministry confirmed that Iranian Armed Forces responded with “authoritative force,” claiming that the “invaders failed to achieve their illegitimate objectives” after receiving a “heavy slap” in return.
A Call for Regional Security
Concluding the statement, the Ministry reiterated its stance that the presence of U.S. and foreign forces is the primary cause of instability in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.
Regional Sovereignty: Iran emphasized its commitment to the policy of “good neighborliness” and respect for the territorial integrity of all regional states.
Collective Security: Tehran once again invited regional governments to establish an “endogenous security mechanism” based on collective trust, free from the “destructive interference” of extra-regional actors.
