Tehran–Moscow Talks on Regional Security
WANA (May 28) – The Deputy for Foreign Policy and International Security Affairs at the Secretariat of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council held separate meetings with Russian Foreign Ministry officials during a visit to Moscow, discussing a range of bilateral and regional issues, including the emergence of a “new regional security equation.”
Ali Bagheri, who traveled to Russia to attend the 14th International Meeting of High Representatives for Security Issues, met and held consultations with Georgy Borisenko, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia. Kazem Jalali, the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Moscow, was also present at the meeting. The two sides reviewed the latest regional developments, the U.S. and Israeli military attacks against Iran, and prospects for bilateral cooperation in the political and security fields.
The two parties also exchanged views on strengthening cooperation aimed at enhancing peace, stability, and security in the surrounding region, as well as other developments related to Tehran–Moscow relations at the regional and international levels.
As part of the consultations, Bagheri also held a separate meeting with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov. During the talks, the two sides reviewed the latest ongoing developments and discussed major regional and international events, the legal implications of the recent military attacks against the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the need to establish new mechanisms and frameworks for cooperation to reinforce regional stability and security.
On the sidelines of the international meeting, Bagheri is also expected to hold talks with delegations from participating countries on shared regional and security-related issues, in addition to his meetings with Russian officials.
