WANA (Jan 18) – Tehran Prosecutor Ali Salehi dismissed remarks by US President Donald Trump, who had claimed that Iran had revoked death sentences for 800 alleged rioters, saying Trump “often makes baseless and pointless statements.”

Reacting to Trump’s comments, Salehi said Iran’s approach toward those involved in unrest is “decisive, deterrent, and swift.”

He added that at present, a large number of cases have reached the indictment stage and have been referred to courts for further legal proceedings.

U.S. President Donald Trump had previously thanked the Iranian government for stopping what he described as “scheduled hangings,” according to a message he posted on social media.

On Friday, Trump wrote on the social platform Truth Social: “I greatly respect the fact that all scheduled hangings, which were to take place yesterday (Over 800 of them), have been cancelled by the leadership of Iran. Thank you!”
