WANA (Jan 08) – Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement early Monday warning that any Israeli military adventurism against Lebanon or the Islamic Republic of Iran would be met with a forceful and comprehensive response from Iran’s armed forces.

 

The statement, released following Sunday night’s missile strikes on military targets in northern occupied Palestinian territories, said the operation was carried out within the framework of Iran’s inherent right to self-defense under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.

 

According to the ministry, the strikes came in response to what it described as repeated violations of the April 8, 2026 ceasefire agreement and continued acts of aggression by Israel against both Lebanon and Iran. The statement also accused Israel, in coordination with the United States, of targeting Iranian vessels and assets in recent weeks and engaging in actions that threatened Iranian interests.

 

The Foreign Ministry emphasized that the ceasefire in Lebanon constituted an integral part of the April agreement and held the United States directly responsible for Israel’s alleged violations and the resulting regional tensions. It warned that Washington bears responsibility for any further escalation stemming from those actions.

 

Reaffirming Tehran’s determination to safeguard its national security and interests, the statement stressed that any new hostile action by Israel against Lebanon or Iran would trigger a decisive and wide-ranging response from the country’s armed forces.

 

Meanwhile, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced in a separate statement that its Aerospace Force had targeted the Ramat David Airbase with ballistic missiles. The IRGC said the strike was conducted in response to what it described as large-scale Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon, including the cities of Tyre and Nabatieh, as well as Beirut’s southern suburbs.

 

The IRGC further stated that Iran’s acceptance of the ceasefire on April 8 had been conditional upon a halt to hostilities across all fronts. However, it claimed that both the United States and Israel had failed to honor their commitments by continuing military operations in Lebanon and repeatedly targeting Iranian vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, the Gulf of Oman, and the Indian Ocean.

 

Concluding its statement, the IRGC described the latest missile operation as a warning and cautioned that any future aggression would be met with broader retaliatory measures targeting all U.S. and Israeli-related objectives across the region.
