WANA (Jun 10) – Israeli police and the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) have arrested a Tel Aviv resident on suspicion of espionage and carrying out missions on behalf of Iran.

According to the reports, police interrogations allege that Iranian agents contacted the individual via the Telegram messaging app, requesting that they perform several tasks in exchange for money.

It is further alleged that the arrested individual acted on some of these requests, including spray-painting graffiti in various parts of Tel Aviv as instructed. It is also claimed that individual was asked to photograph the Iron Dome missile defense system but refused.

Following interrogations, the individual was released to house arrest. Their family was reportedly kept fully informed throughout the investigation.

Police and the Shin Bet issued a warning that intelligence operatives continue to attempt to recruit residents of the occupied territories through social media for “sabotage activities.”

These accusations by Israeli police and the Shin Bet against Iran come after Iran’s Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) announced on June 7 that the country’s intelligence apparatus had obtained a “wealth of strategic and sensitive information and documents” belonging to the Israeli regime, including “thousands of documents related to its nuclear plans and facilities.”

Approximately two weeks prior to the IRIB report, the Shin Bet and Israeli police announced the arrest of Roi Mizrahi and Almog Atias, two 24-year-olds from Nesher in northern Israel, on charges of cooperating with Iran.

According to informed sources, while the operation to obtain the aforementioned documents took place some time ago, the immense volume of documents and the necessity of securely transferring the entire consignment into Iran led to a media blackout until their safe arrival at protected locations was confirmed.

In this context, Esmaeil Khatib, Iran’s Minister of Intelligence, emphasized in a televised interview that “the documents we obtained from the Zionist regime relate to their nuclear facilities, and these documents enhance our country’s offensive power. Documents related to America, Europe, and other countries have also been obtained.”

The Iranian Intelligence Minister noted that “a widespread, comprehensive, and complex operation was planned, which began with infiltration, recruitment of sources, and increasing access to these sources, making it possible for us today, by the grace of God, to witness an important treasure trove.”
