The Groundwork for Expanding Cooperation with Oman Has Been Laid
WANA (May 28) – The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, referring to the agreements reached during his meeting with the Sultan of Oman to strengthen and deepen bilateral ties, stated: “The necessary groundwork for expanding cooperation between the two countries in all areas—including economic, social, cultural, political, and security fields—has been established, and we must all seize this opportunity.”
Masoud Pezeshkian, on the second day of his visit to Oman and during a meeting with the country’s economic actors this morning (Wednesday), expressed his pleasure at being in Muscat and said: “We had productive meetings with our brother, the Sultan of Oman, and reached significant agreements between Iran and Oman.”
He added: “Our first step should be to strengthen our connectivity via ports and air routes. We need to enhance scientific, economic, and industrial cooperation. We must also establish effective financial exchange mechanisms so that our traders can conduct business smoothly.”
Pezeshkian continued: “Without a proper financial infrastructure, economic and healthcare trade cannot thrive. Our Central Bank Governor was present in Muscat and likely had fruitful discussions with his Omani counterpart. We also reached strong agreements with the Sultan. I told the Sultan yesterday that many of our exchanges can go through Oman, and if the right conditions are met, the trade volume between Iran and Oman could reach $20 to $30 billion.”
The President went on to say: “Together, we can build connections extending from one end to Africa and the other to Central Asia and Europe. We should pursue joint investments and expand trade across the region. There are many areas where we can collaborate. We can create a shared platform for cooperation in science, industry, economy, medicine, culture, politics, and security. This groundwork already exists—it just requires belief, determination, and decision-making.”

Referring to the centuries-old historical ties between Iran and Oman, Pezeshkian noted: “Our relations go back a long way and are intertwined with acts of sacrifice that have linked us spiritually and culturally. We can join hands and work together for the benefit of our people.”
He added: “We are ready to cooperate with Oman in all areas. Such cooperation is beneficial for both nations. As scientific, economic, and political cooperation grows, so too will peace and security. Where trade, industry, and science advance, there is no place for war and bloodshed. Therefore, we can establish and expand peace and security together and promote brotherly interaction among all Muslims in the Middle East.”
The Iranian President emphasized: “Muslims are brothers and should not be deceived into conflict. Colonial powers have always sought to pit Muslims against one another, plunder Islamic nations’ resources, and sell them weapons to fuel internal strife. We must remain vigilant, resist such policies, help each other, and work to create peace and security in the region.”
Pezeshkian concluded by expressing hope that the agreements made will be implemented as soon as possible.
