The Latest Chapter in Israel’s Threats Against Iran
WANA (Sep 24) – In recent weeks, new signs of escalating tension between Iran and Israel have emerged—signals that resemble a psychological maneuver to manage the battlefield more than the prelude to a full-scale war. Security sources say Tel Aviv is working on a “new surprise,” a plan with clear objectives: striking Iran’s military, economic, and especially nuclear centers.
Yet Israel’s main concern in its calculations is not Iran’s military power or geopolitical position, but its internal social cohesion. Analysts argue that this very unity serves as a genuine deterrent, making Tel Aviv more cautious in its decision-making. At the same time, both the U.S. and Israel are well aware that entering a full confrontation would quickly spiral out of control. Therefore, both actors are trying to keep the level of hostilities within limited boundaries.

Meanwhile, intelligence narratives have become part of the psychological war. David Barnea, the head of Mossad, recently claimed that his agency has achieved “deep infiltration” inside Iran. But independent reviews—and even some internal assessments—suggest this image relies more on exaggeration than fact. Evidence shows that Mossad’s insights are largely the result of technical tools and electronic surveillance, not human networks. During the recent 12-day conflict, Mossad’s human assets played a minimal role, with many of the few involved being identified and arrested.
On the other side, Iranian intelligence services have managed to penetrate Israel’s security and political structures in meaningful ways—an extent of infiltration that some describe as a “hidden national security crisis” for Tel Aviv. This reversed picture not only undermines Mossad’s claims but also reveals the true balance of the intelligence struggle.
What is unfolding today between Iran and Israel goes beyond the exchange of threats: it is a complex psychological and intelligence game in which both sides seek to achieve maximum strategic gains at minimum cost. The central question, however, remains: will this shadow war one day break into the open, or will it remain confined to the realm of the unseen?
