WANA (May 26) – The Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran has stressed the necessity of joint and effective action to halt the ongoing atrocities in Gaza during a meeting with the Prime Minister of Pakistan.

In a meeting held today with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his accompanying delegation, Ayatollah Khamenei highlighted Pakistan’s important role in the Islamic world and called for closer cooperation between Tehran and Islamabad in supporting the people of Gaza and confronting the crimes committed by Israel.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Iranian Leader expressed satisfaction with the cessation of hostilities between Pakistan and India and voiced hope for a peaceful resolution of their disputes. He also commended Pakistan’s consistent stance in support of the Palestinian cause over the years. Despite pressures on Muslim countries to normalize ties with Israel, he noted, Pakistan has remained steadfast and resistant to such influence.

Ayatollah Khamenei emphasized the untapped potential of the Islamic world for achieving greater strength and unity. He asserted that in a world increasingly driven by warmongering and division, the only path to security for the Muslim ummah lies in solidarity and strengthened ties among Islamic nations.

He described the situation in Gaza as tragic and pointed out that while ordinary people in Europe and the United States are protesting against their governments’ positions, some Islamic states are unfortunately siding with Israel.

The Iranian Leader insisted that Iran and Pakistan can play a meaningful role in shaping developments in the Islamic world and redirecting the course of the Palestinian issue. He expressed optimism about the future of the Islamic world, stating that recent events have affirmed this hopeful outlook.

Referring to the warm and brotherly ties between Tehran and Islamabad, he expressed dissatisfaction with the current level of bilateral cooperation, especially considering the close historical relations between the two countries. He urged greater collaboration in economic, political, and cultural fields, and stressed the importance of revitalizing the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) through joint efforts.

In the meeting, which was also attended by the President of Iran, Prime Minister Sharif expressed great pleasure at meeting the Iranian Leader and thanked the Islamic Republic for its constructive role in helping to ease tensions between Pakistan and India. He also criticized the international community’s failure to take meaningful action to end the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza and called for more decisive efforts.

Sharif described his talks in Tehran as positive and constructive and expressed hope that the visit would pave the way for even stronger bilateral relations.
