The Noose Tightens Around Iran
WANA (Jan 01) – Over the past 24 hours, pressure on the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding its nuclear program has rapidly intensified:
1. IAEA Report Undermines Iran’s Peaceful Claims
A new report from the International Atomic Energy Agency has dealt a serious blow to Iran’s claims of pursuing a peaceful nuclear program. According to the report, Iran has sharply accelerated its production of 60% enriched uranium. The country’s enriched uranium stockpile has now reached 9,247 kilograms, and its cooperation with the Agency has been deemed unsatisfactory. The report also accuses Tehran of failing to declare three nuclear sites and subsequently cleaning them up.
2. Austrian Intelligence: Iran Still Pursuing Nuclear Weapons
Meanwhile, Austrian intelligence has reported that Iran is continuing its nuclear weapons program. The report suggests that Iran is seeking to re-establish capabilities for producing nuclear arms and is upgrading its ballistic missile systems.
3. Europe Poised to Trigger the Snapback Mechanism
European powers appear determined to activate the JCPOA’s snapback mechanism — and are no longer shy about saying so publicly.
4. Israel’s Military on Standby Despite U.S. Warnings
According to Yedioth Ahronoth, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered the Israeli Air Force to prepare for potential strikes against Iran, even in the face of warnings from President Trump.
5. Erdogan Exploits the Moment
Once again, Turkish President Erdogan has seized the opportunity to intervene, advising the Islamic Republic to reconsider its stance in the South Caucasus.

Yet despite these developments and alarming headlines, the likelihood of a new military conflict erupting in the Middle East remains low. Four key signs support this projection:
1. Trump’s Washington Prefers Pressure Over War
The Trump-led United States is not seeking a direct confrontation with Iran. The White House has learned how to coerce the Islamic Republic into compliance without resorting to force.
2. Gulf Leaders Oppose Strikes on Iran
Persian Gulf leaders have clearly expressed their opposition to any military strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities.
3. Tehran Avoids War Despite Losing Regional Proxies
Although the Islamic Republic has lost much of its regional proxy strength, it is actively avoiding entering a new war under any circumstances.
4. The West Knows War Would Benefit Russia
Western powers understand that any widespread conflict in the region would primarily benefit Russia and its allies in Ukraine — before achieving any other strategic objective.
