WANA (Sep 01) – The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported early Tuesday that a security incident occurred involving an oil tanker near the coast of Oman as the vessel was departing the Strait of Hormuz.

 

According to a statement by UKMTO, the tanker was struck by three unidentified projectiles in waters approximately 31 kilometers north of Oman’s Al Khasab area, causing a fire to break out onboard.

 

UKMTO said the fire was brought under control and that all crew members were safe. No environmental damage has been reported so far.

 

The British maritime security organization added that investigations into the incident are ongoing and advised vessels operating in the area to proceed with caution and report any suspicious activity or incidents.
