Timing of Next Round of Iran–U.S. Talks Under Review
WANA (Feb 11) – Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said consultations are underway regarding the timing of the next round of negotiations between Iran and the United States.
Speaking to reporters, Larijani noted that one round of talks has been held so far and described it as positive within its scope. He said there are indications that the parties want to move forward and steer the dialogue toward solutions, but emphasized that it is too early to make a full assessment based on a single meeting.
Larijani, who traveled to Muscat and on Wednesday morning departed for Doha as the second stop of his trip, said the visit to Oman was conducted in light of the close and historically strong relations between Iran and Oman. He added that discussions in Muscat covered trade relations, development cooperation, as well as regional and international issues.
Larijani said he held talks with the Sultan of Oman and Lieutenant General Sultan bin Mohammed Al Nu’mani, describing the discussions as good and constructive. Commenting on the negotiations held on Friday, in Muscat, Larijani said it is premature to judge the outcome.
“So far, one session has been held, and it was good in its own right. It appears they want to move forward and direct the talks toward solutions, but with one session, a complete judgment cannot be made. We need to see how they continue,” he said.
Larijani concluded that consultations are ongoing to determine the timing of the next round of talks and said he expects it to be announced in the future.
