WANA (Jan 30) – Egyptian officials have announced a joint effort with Qatar and Oman to reduce escalating tensions between Iran and the United States, an initiative aimed at preventing wider instability in the Middle East.

According to Russia Today Arabic (Russia Al-Youm), Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said that Egypt, Qatar, and Oman have launched intensive consultations in recent hours to prevent further escalation.

He referred to direct contacts with Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, as well as the Prime Minister of Qatar and Oman’s foreign minister, noting that the coordination reflects shared concerns over the serious security and political consequences of rising tensions in the region.

Abdelatty stressed that any escalation could pose significant risks to the stability of the entire Middle East.

He added that, under the direction of President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Egypt’s diplomatic efforts will continue without interruption, with the primary goal of de-escalating the crisis and preventing the region from entering a more dangerous phase.

The Egyptian foreign minister also expressed hope that these diplomatic efforts would open a path toward direct negotiations and enable the resolution of outstanding issues—four key files, in particular.

He concluded by emphasizing the need for all parties to support what he described as “sincere diplomatic efforts” aimed at reaching a sustainable solution.
