WANA (Jun 26) – U.S. President Donald Trump has accused Iran of violating the ceasefire by launching several drones toward commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. The allegation comes as reports of a recent maritime incident off the coast of Oman have not identified the party responsible.

 

In a post published Friday on his Truth Social platform, Trump claimed that the Islamic Republic of Iran launched at least four attack drones at ships passing through the strategic waterway.

 

According to Trump, one of the drones struck a large commercial cargo vessel, causing damage, although the ship was able to continue its voyage. He further claimed that U.S. forces intercepted and shot down the three remaining drones.

 

Describing the incident, Trump called it “a blatant and foolish violation of our ceasefire agreement.”

 

The allegations follow reports on Thursday of a maritime incident off the coast of Oman. According to those reports, a cargo ship southeast of an Omani port was hit by an unidentified projectile. Authorities said the incident caused neither casualties nor environmental damage.

 

At the same time, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) center confirmed receiving a report of an incident approximately 7.5 nautical miles southeast of a port in Oman. The vessel’s master reportedly stated that there were no injuries or environmental consequences.

 

Meanwhile, Arsenio Dominguez, Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), announced that the organization had temporarily suspended its evacuation operation in the area. He said the decision was made to ensure that adequate safety guarantees remain in place for vessels and seafarers operating in the region.

 

The IMO had previously announced that, in coordination with Iran, Oman, other coastal states, the United States, and the shipping industry, it had begun an operation to evacuate more than 11,000 seafarers who remain in the region.
