WANA (Aug 02) – U.S. President Donald Trump has stepped back from his recent military threats against Iran, announcing that he had decided to cancel a planned attack. In a statement, Trump claimed the decision followed requests from Iran and several Middle Eastern countries to suspend military action as part of a potential agreement.

 

Trump further claimed that the proposed deal would include the immediate and complete reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and an end to what he described as Iran’s nuclear threat. He said he had agreed to cancel the attack, provided that a deal could be reached quickly.

 

Meanwhile, Lebanon’s Al Mayadeen television network reported that shortages in U.S. missile stockpiles were among the key factors behind Washington’s decision to halt the planned operation against Iran.

 

Separately, political analyst Morteza Simiari argued that Iran’s credible deterrence and Washington’s concerns over the consequences of a strategic miscalculation were the primary reasons behind the shift in the U.S. position. According to Simiari, Iran’s heightened military readiness and repeated warnings of a decisive response to any aggression played a significant role in deterring military action.

 

Simiari also addressed Trump’s remarks on reopening the Strait of Hormuz, stating that, from Iran’s perspective, the strategic waterway will not be reopened without taking Iran’s conditions and security considerations into account.
