Trump Claims Iran in “State of Collapse,” Seeks Reopening of Strait of Hormuz
WANA (Apr 29) – U.S. President Donald Trump issued a statement via Truth Social claiming that Iranian authorities have reached out to the United States regarding a dire domestic situation and the ongoing maritime blockade.
In the post, Trump asserted that Iran has informed the U.S. that the country is currently in a “State of Collapse.” According to Trump, Iranian officials have requested that the U.S. “Open the Hormuz Strait” as soon as possible.
The statement also touched upon internal political dynamics within the Islamic Republic. Trump indicated that the request to reopen the vital waterway comes as Iranian officials “try to figure out their leadership situation,” adding that he believes they “will be able to do” so.
The claims come amid a period of intense regional friction and reported naval blockades affecting the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global energy supplies.
