Trump Claims Iran Seeks Deal Amid Ongoing “Military Operation”
WANA (May 01) – U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Thursday that Iran is highly motivated to reach an agreement, even as his administration continues to navigate the diplomatic and economic fallout of the current military crisis.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, the President reiterated his stance that Iran must never be permitted to acquire nuclear weapons.
He asserted that the true status of negotiations remains confidential, claiming that only he and a select group of individuals are aware of the actual progress being made.
Claims on the Iranian Economy and Global Impact
During a session in the Oval Office, President Trump alleged that the Iranian economy is currently in a state of collapse.
This statement comes at a time of heightened global economic tension; the ongoing crisis involving Washington and Tel Aviv has not only impacted international markets but has also contributed to rising inflation and increased costs for fuel and food within the United States.
Addressing the spike in energy prices following the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, the President predicted a sharp decline in fuel costs once the conflict concludes.
Diplomatic Stance and Military Classification
Despite his stated interest in diplomacy and reaching a new deal, the President appeared non-committal regarding a potential ceasefire. When questioned on the matter, he remarked that he was unsure if one would be necessary, though he conceded it might become a requirement later.
The President also addressed the internal friction between the White House and Congress regarding the 60-day limit on military hostilities. He declined to characterize the current situation as a “war,” instead defining the actions against Iran as a “military operation.”
Furthermore, while confirming that discussions for a new agreement are underway, he noted that Democratic lawmakers are currently pushing for an immediate end to the hostilities.
