WANA (Dec 16) – U.S. President Donald Trump has signed a new proclamation tightening entry into the United States on national security grounds, significantly expanding travel restrictions to more than 30 countries.
Under the new order, a full entry ban now applies to nationals of 19 countries, as well as individuals holding travel documents issued by the Palestinian Authority.
Countries subject to full entry bans (12 primary countries): Afghanistan, Myanmar (Burma), Chad, the Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen.
Newly added countries to the full ban list: Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, South Sudan, and Syria.
The restrictions also extend to individuals carrying travel documents issued by the Palestinian Authority.
Upgraded from partial to full restrictions: Laos and Sierra Leone, which were previously under partial entry limitations.
Previously listed countries: Burundi, Cuba, Togo, and Venezuela.
Fifteen additional countries have been newly added to the broader restrictions: Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Dominica, Gabon, Gambia, Malawi, Mauritania, Nigeria, Senegal, Tanzania, Tonga, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
The expanded measures are presented as part of a broader effort to strengthen U.S. border and immigration controls in the interest of national security.
