Trump Reinstates Sanctions That Were Never Lifted—All Part of a Psychological War
WANA (Jun 29) – Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf, Speaker of Iran’s Parliament, criticized U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday, saying: “The disrespectful president of the United States reinstates sanctions in his imaginary online world—sanctions that were never even lifted. His contradictory positions are part of a broader psychological operation aimed at spreading fear among the public and disrupting the decision-making process of Iranian officials.”
Speaking during an open parliamentary session, Ghalibaf declared that Iran’s enemies had suffered a “historic defeat” at the hands of the Iranian people. “They believed that years of psychological warfare and internal shortcomings had demoralized the youth—especially those born in the 1990s and 2000s—but these very youth rose to the occasion and taught the world the meaning of patriotism and courage.”
He added that since the enemy had failed on the ground, they had shifted focus to psychological tactics, using contradictory and senseless messaging to confuse the public and sow division. “They want to fracture the unified front of the Iranian people against foreign threats and finish what they couldn’t accomplish on the streets through unrest and chaos.”
According to Ghalibaf, disseminating false information and creating artificial anxieties has now become “a central pillar of the enemy’s psychological warfare.” He pointed to Trump’s erratic social media behavior as evidence: “One day, without issuing any formal executive order, he claims to have lifted sanctions—only to claim hours later that he is reinstating sanctions that were never removed, blaming them on statements made by Iranian officials. The aim is clear: to mislead the public into thinking that the sanctions are Iran’s fault.”
He also questioned the U.S. strategy during previous diplomatic talks, saying: “How is it that, right in the middle of negotiations, the U.S. suddenly moved toward war—only for its president to later present his failed dream of an imposed agreement as a peace offer? Moments later, he talks about the possibility of renewed conflict, all to instill fear among the brave people of Iran.”

This Gambler President Has No Credibility
Ghalibaf dismissed Trump’s rhetoric as “attention-seeking and devoid of any real value.”
“Insults to respected figures, fabricated tensions with Israel, and all his loudmouthed statements are part of a psychological game—none of which are credible. Every word he says is either part of a calculated effort to spread fear and despair in Iran or just meaningless noise meant to draw attention.”
He accused U.S. officials of wasting what little credibility they had left by backing Persian-language media “mercenaries” who, he claimed, betrayed their homeland in exchange for green cards and dollars. “Now, U.S. officials themselves have taken charge of psychological operations targeting Iranian youth, trying to distort their thinking with worthless, contradictory messages—but they will fail yet again. The Iranian people know these manipulative tactics too well.”
Ghalibaf stressed: “Iranians will never abandon their homeland. The traitors and sellouts, alongside the enemies of this land, have no place other than the trash bin of history and the collective memory of the Iranian nation.”
Following his speech, members of parliament chanted slogans including “Labbaik Ya Khamenei,” “Down with America,” and “Down with Israel.”
