WANA (Aug 22) – U.S. President Donald Trump once again repeated his familiar claims about Iran’s military capabilities and the Strait of Hormuz early Saturday, as the standoff over reopening the strategic waterway continues and pressure on the U.S. administration appears to be mounting.

 

Trump reiterated his recent position on the Strait of Hormuz, saying, “I now consider the Strait of Hormuz to be U.S. territory.”

 

The U.S. president also repeated his claim that Iran no longer possesses significant military or technical capabilities, saying, “The Iranians no longer have a navy or air force, radar or technical equipment, and they have no production capabilities either.”

 

Trump has made similar claims repeatedly since the beginning of the conflict, asserting that Iran’s military and industrial capabilities have been largely destroyed. However, following Iran’s attacks on U.S. military bases in the region, such statements drew criticism over how closely they reflected the situation on the ground.

 

Trump’s latest remarks come as the Strait of Hormuz remains one of the main flashpoints in tensions between Iran and the United States, while Washington’s efforts to pressure Tehran into accepting U.S. demands continue to face significant obstacles.
