Trump Responds to Reports of Iran Suspending Talks: “Silence Is Fine”
WANA (Jun 01) – U.S. President Donald Trump said he has not received any official indication from Iran regarding reports that Tehran has suspended negotiations and message exchanges with Washington.
Speaking to NBC News, Trump said: “I haven’t heard anything from Iran about reports that negotiations with the United States have been suspended, but if that is true, that’s fine.”
Referring to the recent diplomatic process, he added: “I think we’ve talked too much. Silence would be a very good thing.”
Trump, however, stressed that by “silence” he did not mean military action, saying: “Silence does not mean we’re going to start bombing.”
The U.S. president also signaled that Washington would maintain its pressure campaign against Iran. “We will keep the blockade in place. The blockade is like a piece of steel,” he said.
Asked whether he was prepared to wait for Iran’s decision for an extended period, Trump replied: “I think I can wait as long as they want. They are losing a lot of wealth.”
His remarks came amid reports that Iran has halted negotiations and the exchange of messages with the United States through mediators.
According to those reports, Iranian officials decided to suspend the process in protest over the continued Israeli military operations in Gaza and Lebanon, which Tehran says violate the conditions related to ceasefire arrangements.
The reports further state that Iranian officials have emphasized the need for an immediate end to Israeli military operations in Gaza and Lebanon, as well as a full withdrawal from areas occupied in Lebanon, insisting that no talks will take place until these demands are met.
The reports also claim that Iran and allied groups are considering additional measures to increase pressure through key maritime routes in the region.
