WANA (Jan 16) – U.S. President Donald Trump thanked the Iranian government for stopping what he described as “scheduled hangings,” according to a message he posted on social media.

On Friday, Trump wrote on the social platform Truth Social: “I greatly respect the fact that all scheduled hangings, which were to take place yesterday (Over 800 of them), have been cancelled by the leadership of Iran. Thank you!”

In recent days, Iran has witnessed peaceful protests by segments of the public and various professional groups in Tehran and several other cities, triggered by currency fluctuations and economic conditions.

The government has stated that it recognises these protests and that efforts to address the concerns raised are ongoing. However, officials say that infiltrators and hired terrorists intervened in the demonstrations, turning them into violent unrest and leading to the killing of innocent civilians.

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, in an interview with Fox News, outlined details of how the recent incidents unfolded and addressed the reasons behind the killings and gunfire directed at civilians.

“Terrorists began shooting at people for one reason: they wanted to increase the death toll,” Araghchi said. “Why? Because President Trump had said that if a massacre occurred, he would intervene. They wanted to draw him into the conflict, and this was precisely an Israeli plot. They wanted to pull the president of the United States into this confrontation, so they started increasing the number of deaths by killing ordinary people, killing police officers, and creating a kind of war inside different cities. That’s the story.”
