Trump Says U.S. Acts Like Pirates in Naval Blockade of Iran
WANA (May 02) – The U.S. President acknowledged yesterday that the United States Navy is operating similarly to pirates while enforcing Washington’s naval blockade against Iranian ports.
In remarks delivered Friday night concerning a recent operation by U.S. forces against a vessel linked to Iran, the President confirmed that his administration had seized the ship, its cargo, and its oil.
He characterized these seizures as a highly profitable business and stated that the U.S. was essentially acting as pirates, adding that the government was being serious in its approach.
Earlier, Esmaeil Baghaei, Iranian spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, responded to admissions by U.S. judicial authorities regarding orders to intercept ships carrying Iranian oil and confiscate their cargo.
He described the situation as the formal legalization of piracy and armed robbery in international waters, signaling a return to the era when pirates dominated the seas.
He noted that the only difference now is that these actions are carried out under government orders and an official flag, while being labeled as law enforcement.
The spokesperson further stated that the United States must be held fully accountable for what he termed shameful behavior and blatant lawbreaking.
He argued that such actions represent an unprecedented blow to international law and free trade, threatening the fundamental principles of maritime security.
Many experts in international law maintain that the threats and actions taken by the Trump administration against Iran during the current conflict constitute war crimes and clear violations of international regulations.
