WANA (Jul 16) – U.S. President Donald Trump claimed in a social media post early today that an American citizen who, according to him, had been arrested in Iran in 2024 during Joe Biden’s administration had been released.

 

In the same post, Trump criticized his predecessor while also thanking Iran for what he described as the prisoner’s release.

 

However, available information and conducted reviews indicate that no American prisoner matching the description provided by Trump—or any other American citizen—has been released from Iranian prisons or freed through a prisoner exchange.

 

Based on the information currently available, Trump’s claim is not supported by evidence, and no official authority has confirmed the release or exchange of any American detainee from Iran.

 

This is not the first time Trump’s statements regarding Iran have been met with skepticism or denials. On previous occasions, he made claims—including allegations about the imminent execution of eight female prisoners and the execution of a young man in Karaj—that were later rejected or denied by official sources.
