Trump’s Statements Openly Incite Violence in Iran
WANA (Jan 14) – In a letter to the UN Security Council and the UN Secretary-General, the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran stated that the interventionist remarks by US President Donald Trump openly incite violence inside Iran and threaten military intervention.
In the letter addressed by Amir Saeid Iravani, Iran’s ambassador, to UN Secretary-General António Guterres and the President of the Security Council, it is stated that these reckless statements explicitly encourage political destabilization, fuel violence, and threaten the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national security of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Such positions constitute a flagrant violation of the fundamental principles of international law enshrined in the UN Charter, in particular the prohibition of the threat or use of force under Article 2(4) and the principle of non-intervention in the internal affairs of states under Article 2(7).
Elsewhere in the letter, Iravani wrote that this interventionist rhetoric is part of a continuous and escalating pattern of political destabilization pursued by the President of the United States in recent weeks, during which he has repeatedly threatened the use of force against Iran, as documented in Iran’s previous communications dated 30 December 2025, 2 January 2026, and 9 January 2026.
The letter further states that the remarks of the US president must be viewed in the context of the failure of the 12-day war of aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran in June 2025, as a complementary component of a broader regime-change policy. This policy, it notes, has been pursued through the “maximum pressure” campaign, the intensification of illegal unilateral sanctions, deliberate social and economic destabilization, the systematic spread of insecurity, and the incitement of youth to confront the Islamic Republic of Iran.
In another section, the letter emphasizes that, in light of these clear violations of the UN Charter and international law by the United States and their grave consequences for regional and international peace and security, the UN Secretary-General and the Security Council, in accordance with their Charter-mandated responsibilities, must unequivocally and explicitly condemn all forms of incitement to violence, threats of the use of force, and interference in Iran’s internal affairs by the United States.
It adds that the United States and the Israeli regime bear direct and undeniable legal responsibility for the loss of innocent lives, particularly those of young people.
The letter further calls on the UN Secretary-General and the Security Council to demand that the United States and the Israeli regime immediately cease their destabilizing policies and actions and fully comply with their obligations under international law, and to warn the United States against any potential miscalculation that could lead to acts of military aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Finally, the letter urges all UN member states to refrain from provocative and irresponsible statements or actions that violate the UN Charter, including the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political independence of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
