Turkey Not Evacuating Citizens from Iran
WANA (Jan 08) – According to inquiries made with the Turkish Embassy in Tehran, reports published on some social media platforms claiming that Ankara is taking steps to evacuate Turkish citizens from Iran are untrue.
Earlier, certain channels and social media pages had claimed that due to developments in Iran and the region, Turkey was in the process of evacuating its nationals from Iran.
The current wave of demonstrations in Iran began approximately 10 days ago, initially sparked by severe instability in the foreign exchange market and a sharp rise in the cost of basic goods following a historic plunge in the value of the national currency.
With the US dollar reaching unprecedented heights, soaring food inflation has placed immense pressure on the livelihoods of the Iranian population. However, the nature of these protests has shifted significantly.
According to security reports and field observations, opposition groups and separatist entities—most notably the Komala party—have moved to capitalize on the economic grievances, steering the gatherings toward organized unrest and anti-security confrontations. This escalation has turned violent in several regions, resulting in casualties among both protesters and police forces.
