Turkish Aircraft Aid Iran in Elite Forest Fire
WANA (Nov 23) – Two water-dropping aircraft and a firefighting helicopter from Turkey have arrived in Iran to help contain the forest fire in the Elite region of Chalous.
According to the Public Relations Office of Iran’s Department of Environment, the aircraft and helicopter landed at Ardabil Airport today.
After fueling and receiving instructions from the Iranian National Crisis Management Organization, they will be deployed to support the firefighting operations in the Elite forests.
The aerial team consists of two AT-8T water-dropping planes and an H60 turbine-prop helicopter, each capable of carrying over 3,000 liters of water. Once fueled in Ardabil, they will head toward the Elite area.
These aircraft are capable of short-runway takeoff and landing and can collect water directly from seas and lakes. One of the planes is specifically suited for forest and grassland fires and operations in hard-to-reach terrain.
The Turkish team was welcomed at the airport by Kiomars Sefidi, Director General of Ardabil’s Department of Environment, along with several provincial officials.
