Two Armed Members of the MEK Executed in Iran
WANA (Mar 31) – Two armed members of the terrorist group Mojahedin-e Khalq (MEK), who had carried out multiple terrorist operations inside Iran, were executed on Tuesday morning, March 31, after the completion of legal procedures and the confirmation of their sentences by Iran’s Supreme Court.
The two men, identified as Babak Alipour, son of Ali, and Pouya Ghabadi, son of Mostafa, were armed operatives of the MEK. According to Iranian authorities, they carried out attacks on sensitive sites and public locations under the direction of a handler linked to the group, using shoulder-fired launcher weapons.
Babak Alipour was described as an organizational member of the MEK with a prior history of contact with the group’s handler. Acting on orders, he reportedly traveled from Gilan Province to Tehran, where he fired several launcher rounds at the building of a state institution, some of which partially detonated.
After hiding for three days in a safe house allegedly used by the group, he was identified and arrested by Iranian intelligence forces. Authorities said materials used to manufacture improvised explosive devices were later discovered at the location.
Pouya Ghabadi was also described as an active member of the group who had participated in assembling explosive packages and remained in contact with the group’s handler via the Telegram messaging app. He was reportedly arrested by border guards while attempting to leave the country illegally for a neighboring state.
The charges against the two men included direct involvement in terrorist and bombing operations, use of launcher-type projectile weapons, membership and activity in the MEK, forming a group with the aim of disrupting national security, and coordinated cooperation with the group’s handlers in carrying out terrorist attacks.
Following a review of the evidence, including the defendants’ confessions, the discovery of weapons, and explosive materials, the court sentenced both men to death on the charge of baghi — an Islamic legal term broadly referring to armed rebellion against the state. Their appeals were later rejected by the Supreme Court, which upheld the ruling.
Babak Alipour and Pouya Ghabadi were executed on Tuesday morning after all legal formalities had been completed.
