WANA (Sep 23) – In less than one hundred days, Iran secured at least ten international championships and achievements across sports, science, and technology—successes ranging from wrestling and karate to astronomy and medical sciences—offering a different image of the nation’s capabilities to global public opinion.

In sports, Iran’s national deaf futsal team claimed the world championship in Italy after defeating all rivals. The women’s national football team advanced to the final stage of the Asian Cup qualifiers by topping their group. Meanwhile, the men’s junior volleyball team impressed by defeating strong contenders such as Italy to win the world title for the third time.

On the individual stage, Amirmahdi Yahaghi earned Iran’s first-ever medal at the World Speed Skating Championships. In wrestling, the freestyle national team became world champion for the first time in 12 years, while both the junior and senior Greco-Roman teams secured first place as well. With these results, Iran became the third country in history—after the Soviet Union/Russia and Georgia—to win world titles in both freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling simultaneously.

Iranian women also made history in martial arts. Sara Bahmanyar won the nation’s first women’s world gold in karate, and Zahra Kiani claimed the first-ever women’s gold medal in wushu’s Taolu category. In chess, 14-year-old prodigy Sina Moheb was crowned world champion and awarded the title of Grandmaster. The boys’ and girls’ junior taekwondo teams also achieved runner-up positions at the Asian Championships.

 

Scientific achievements were equally notable. Iran’s national Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad team ranked first among more than 50 countries, earning the title of the world’s most decorated team. Several Iranian universities improved their standings in global rankings, and knowledge-based companies succeeded in attracting foreign investment by showcasing new products at international exhibitions.

In medical sciences, Dr. Zeinab Hosseinzadeh, physiotherapist of the women’s national football team, received the AFC Bronze Award in Sports Medicine for her innovations in rehabilitation and treatment of sports injuries. In addition, several new diagnostic technologies were introduced with potential for global distribution.

Economically, exports from listed industries grew by 6.8% in the 12 months ending August 2025. In the energy sector, the discovery of a new gas field equivalent to 20 years of national consumption was announced. The defense industry also unveiled advanced radar systems and new long-range ballistic missiles, strengthening Iran’s deterrence capabilities.

These achievements came at a time when many foreign media outlets downplayed or ignored Iran’s successes, often focusing instead on domestic challenges. Nevertheless, the record of the past two months demonstrates that Iran has managed to assert itself simultaneously in sports, science, medicine, economics, and defense on the global stage.
